🔍 Before the Bites: A Gut Check on Trust

We all need to ask ourselves: Are there any behaviors we’re carrying that are quietly (or CLEARLY) underming trust?

Do the people around us know what they’re going to get when we walk in the room, fire off a text, or hit “Join Meeting”?

Because here’s the deal: even if we’re not the designated leader in a family, team, or org… we have the ultimate responsibility to be the leader of ourselves.

So whether we’re a child in a household, an employee in a company, or a friend in a group chat, a mother, a father, a boss— Are we showing up in a way that’s steady, reliable, and grounded… or in a way no one can really count on?

Let’s dig in…

1. Predictable > Perfect

We’re all allowed a bad day.

But consistency is the only path to good parenting, good relationships, and good business.

We don’t have to be the best every day. We just have to be the same us—kind, honest, calm, present. (Shxt, even if we are loud, wild, obnoxious…that even works over unpredictable).

Ok, back to it…When people trust our steadiness, they can finally relax. And when they relax, they can flourish.

2. People Remember the Feeling

You’ve heard me talk about this one a lot…and I ain’t stoppin’!!!!

No one remembers every word we said. But they do remember how we made them feel.

Did we bring warmth or coldness?

Did we invite peace or pressure?

We might not even realize it—but people are always picking up what we’re putting down emotionally.

Let’s be people whose consistency leaves behind peace, not confusion…that leads to prosperity!

3. Drop the Wishy-Washy

Straight from the Sandler Training Playbook: “No wishy-washy words.”

When we lean on phrases like:

  • “I think so.”
  • “Maybe.”
  • “We’ll see…”

We create fog.  Those are wishy-washy words!

Instead, let’s anchor our communication:

  • “Yes, I’ll take care of it.”
  • “No, but here’s another way.”
  • “I’ll get the answer and circle back by Wednesday.”
  • or even just a straight “yes or no”

Clarity creates safety…even if it’s not the answer that people want. And safety builds trust.

4. Feeling Unsteady? Try Serving

When we find ourselves snapping, withdrawing, or emotionally spiraling, it’s often a sign we’ve drifted too far inward…

One of the best recalibrations? Serve someone.

Whether it’s a family member, a colleague, a stranger—it changes something in us. It’s not about being a hero. It’s about getting out of our own heads.

A 2020 study in the Journal of Happiness Studies found that volunteering is consistently linked to lower rates of depression and higher life satisfaction—even when accounting for income, employment, and health.

Serving grounds us. It reminds us that it’s not all about us. And that shift? It softens our edges. Stabilizes our mood. Makes us easier to be around.

More of my 2 cents…you need to take this [servant-ism] on as a way of life, not a one-time “I held the door for an elderly lady at the grocery store”…come on now…

5. Let Them (you know I love this one). Let Go. Keep Showing Up.

Let’s be honest…sometimes, our own consistency feels pointless.

We stay calm and others still explode. We keep promises and others ghost.

We lead with empathy and no one thanks us.

But here’s the move: Let them be them. Let go of needing to control it. And keep showing up anyway.

And pray…give it up to God! Our steadiness doesn’t need a standing ovation. It just needs to be there—day after day, conversation after conversation.

And remember, we don’t need to do it alone…

📖 Bonus Wisdom: Scripture on Steadfastness

Here are a few reminders that call us toward steadiness, especially in leadership:

  • 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV): “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you…”
  • Psalm 112:7 (NIV): “They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.”
  • Galatians 6:9 (NIV): “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

🎤 That’s a Wrap

I don’t think that was too preachy…I thought it was pretty good stuff!

Consistency isn’t about being robotic or rigid. It’s about being the safe person that others can count on. Let’s challenge ourselves this week: – What emotional tone are we bringing into rooms? – Where might we be slipping into volatility or vagueness? – Who in our lives would benefit if we simply kept showing up calm, clear, and kind?

How can we serve in everything we do…? I hope this one did something.  Hit reply and tell me where this landed for you. Or forward it to someone whose consistency has shaped you—they deserve to hear it.

Until next time… 🫵 Excelsior. 🧨
